10 Nuggets of Improv Wisdom

Sometimes we need a gentle push. Sometimes we need a piece of wisdom to inspire us. And sometimes we just need a nap.

For today's blog I have gathered some wisdom from past blogs and put them in bite chunks for you. Think of them like fun-size Snickers bars.

I am hoping today's blog is both a gentle push and wisdom to inspire you. The napping is up to you.

  • If you want more compliments, give more compliments.
  • If you want to get better at improv, fail more often.
  • If you want to get better even faster, respond one line at time to what your partner says. You will be amazed.
  • If you want to have more opportunities, ask more often.
  • If you want to feel better about your improv, stop comparing yourself to others. It's a sneaky way of beating up on yourself.
  • If you feel stuck in improv, the answer is usually more self-care. You may need to take a break or get a massage.
  • If you want to do more shows, stop complaining and start creating your own stuff. It's more rewarding and it's always a great learning experience.
  • If you want respect, give more respect.
  • If you want people to like you, remember that 1/3 of people will like you, 1/3 will not and 1/3 don't care. It should be pretty obvious which 1/3 to hang out with.
  • If you want to be more connected, be even kinder to others. In improv, whether we know it or not, we do it for the people.
